This project involved remodeling the Our Lady of the Lake Behavioral Health Tau center as a group effort. To maintain the existing structure, we decided to keep the walls, floors, and ceiling intact. However, we made significant changes to the overall aesthetic by updating the paint, furniture, and wall covering.

The facility is equipped with adjustable lighting, allowing for customized illumination in different areas. In addition to artificial lighting, there is an abundance of natural lighting that fills the space, creating a welcoming and vibrant ambiance. Moreover, the facility boasts an outdoor patio with a colored film covering, adding a touch of uniqueness and charm. This patio space serves as a delightful retreat for individuals to relax and enjoy their surroundings while being protected from the elements.

My team had implemented a unique approach to create a soothing environment for its patients. Speakers have been strategically placed in different areas including the hallways, patient rooms, and even the outdoor courtyard. These speakers emit natural sounds like the gentle flow of running water, the cheerful chirping of birds, and the soft rustle of winds, all reminiscent of the tranquility of nature. The volume and frequency of these sounds have been set to a low level, ensuring a calm and peaceful atmosphere throughout the hospital. This innovative method aims to promote relaxation and well-being among the patients, helping them feel more at ease during their stay.

Environmental features such as plants and natural textures such as wood and stone being brought into a interior space can evoke the feeling one gets when interacting with the outdoors. Placing plants in different areas in a space such as on the walls and along the floors also aids in bringing in nature.

We carefully selected furniture with various textures and positions to cater to different needs and preferences. Additionally, we designed several configurations to ensure that the furniture can be arranged in different ways to accommodate various situations. The aim was to create flexible zones that can be easily adapted to meet the changing needs of the center and its occupants. Safety was of utmost importance, and we ensured that all furniture met the necessary regulations and guidelines to provide a secure environment for the patients and staff.

We carefully curated a color palette that consists of a wide range of natural colors, such as soothing greens, tranquil blues, and warm browns. These colors have the remarkable ability to instill a sense of calmness and serenity within individuals. The purpose behind this selection was to complement and enhance the overall ambiance of the biophilic design we have created. By incorporating these natural hues, we aim to establish a deeper connection with nature and create a harmonious environment that promotes relaxation and well-being.
